Welcome to the ALL NEW "Monkey Baby ...going green" (Formerly known as the Monkey Baby Boutique blog). This site has been dormant for quite awhile as my life took a turn in a different direction. My children are growing up and I've been focusing on designing knitwear.
Recently I've done some thinking about continuing on with this site, and it has led me to a total makeover! I will continue to post tips on going green and creating a healthier you, healthier home and a healthier planet! But I will also be including information on sustainable knitwear created by myself and others. Please leave your comments and let me know what you think of the NEW look!

Eco Chic Knits

Eco Chic Knits is committed to providing the finest quality hand knit and personally designed scarfs, sweaters, and tops using sustainable, natural, or organic yarns. They are pleased to introduce Eco Chic Knits Baby! Eco Chic Knits Baby specializes in hand knit to order baby hats featuring organic, natural, sustainable, or alternative eco yarns including naturally dyed organic cotton, organic cotton and milk/soy.
According to Earth Pledge, a non-profit organization (NPO) committed to promoting and supporting sustainable development, "At least 8,000 chemicals are used to turn raw materials into textiles and 25% of the world's pesticides are used to grow non-organic cotton. This causes irreversible damage to people and the environment, and still two thirds of a garment's carbon footprint will occur after it is purchased."
Let's begin supporting Sustainable Designers! Check out a couple of Lindsay Lewchuk's adorable designs below. Makes me wish I had another wee one in my life to knit for! I started this blog when my son was just a toddler. I can't believe he's now 6 years old and going into 1st grade! Time flies! Cherish each and every moment you have with your little ones!

Please visit the  Eco Chic Knits website for more info on Lindsay's incredible designs!

Let's pass the Kids-Safe Chemicals Act in California!

I just wanted to take a moment to share with you that I took action to protect children from toxic chemicals. You can too.
It is critical that we get as many people as we can to show Senator Boxer that people support her efforts to protect our children’s health.

Ecostore USA is in the news, thanks to us mommy bloggers!

Recently I had the privilege of testing some very wonderful eco-friendly products for Ecostore USA. Being "green" products I jumped at the chance to get my hands on some samples and I couldn't wait to blog about them and write a nice little review for their company! You can read more here in this great news article about how "Bloggers help power growth of company".

These are the products I sampled!

As for the products that I received, I have been more than happy and impressed by them! The first item I tried was their Lemongrass Soap. It has a wonderfully aromatic lemony-zest scent. What a satisfying indulgence! It was as if my shower was transformed into a spa! The rich lather was very invigorating.
Next on my sampling agenda was the Baby Body Wash which my own two children were more than happy to make a splash with. Bath time turned into fun time when I told them we had received a new body wash in the mail! They couldn't wait to try out their surprise package! It was gentle on their tender skin and I really liked the fact that it had a light aromatherapy scent. Most importantly I could rest assured that it didn't contain any nasty chemicals, so I knew it was safe for my babies!
Last but not least, I gave the Spray Cleaner a shot in my bathroom. Once again, I was amazed by the cleaning power. It left my sink and toilet sparkling like new! With no overpowering smells, I didn't even have to hold my breath while cleaning (as I would have with other cleaners on the market). It has a very light clean scent. I just sprayed it on and all the dirt and grime was easily wiped away in no time! Having no nasty chemicals, it's naturally antibacterial and safe to use!

Products are available in Meijer's 185 stores in 5 states. Look for a store near you! Or visit Ecostore USA to learn more!

P.S. Ecostore USA is offering free shipping for orders $25 and up through out April for Earth month!

I'm walking 60 miles in the Breast Cancer 3-Day!

I have taken on an incredible challenge. On October 2 - 4, I’ll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me.

It’s for an event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising at least $2300 to help bring us closer to that goal.

Please consider making a donation.

Help me reach my goal for the San Francisco Bay Area Breast Cancer 3-Day!

Without a cure, one in eight women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer. That’s why I’m walking in the 3-Day. Because everyone deserves a lifetime.

To make a donation, go to http://www.the3day.org/goto/christinechen. I would like to reach my fundraising goal by July 1st, so don’t delay!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you for your support!

What's going on???

Baby shampoo should be safe, but it might contain unlabeled, cancer-causing chemicals, according to product tests from the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. It's just another example of how the cosmetics industry and the FDA are letting us down.

To learn which products were tested, understand what it means for your family's health, and write a letter to your elected officials asking for truly safe cosmetics for kids and grownups, visit http://www.safecosmetics.org/toxictub.
